6/14/11 Zacchera Hotels dresses in Pink for Giro d'Italia

Rewording the slogan coined specifically by the Blue Province, the structures of the Zacchera Hotels Group have been literally invaded by the event in a whirlwind of colours: teams, lorries, equipment, sponsors but most of all an awful lot of PINK.

After a few years the Giro d'Italia cycling race has come back to Verbano Cusio Ossola. A 2011 edition of great importance, where the various stages, chosen amongst the most symbolic places of the period, contributed to the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Unification of Italy.

The 19th stage, which brought the athletes from Bergamo to the mountainside of Mount Rosa, after having passed through 17 of the 20 Italian regions, was an opened way through lakes and mountains, from the top of Mount Mottarone above Lake Orta, across villages and valleys, along the lower Ossola Valley and finally into the Anzasca Valley for the last hard kilometres up to Macugnaga.

Everybody noticed the great act Alberto Contador did towards his ex teammate, friend and colleague Paolo Tiralongo: arms up tight he was the first past the post, in his first stage winning ever.

It was really exciting for us from Zacchera Hotels to welcome Alberto Contador. We were honoured to host the person who, just two days later, won the Giro d'Italia 2011, going up the podium with the pink shirt (conquered on Mount Etna during the 9th stage and never left) in Piazza Duomo in Milan.

Together with Alberto Contador, there were another 15 teams for a total of 300 people hosted on Friday 27th May that left Baveno to Verbania for the 20th stage of the race Verbania – Sestrière.
